My last post with the Rosetta Nebula highlighted the off colors for my previous template on Wix... so I decided to change it... pretty smooth, except for moving the blog posts, but luckily I was able to copy the few posts I had quickly.
I'm also eagerly looking forward to the Jupiter and Saturn alignment on 21 Dec of this year... The RASA 8 just doesn't have the magnification to clearly see it so again I proposed a new tube to my wife and again she agreed that it was a good idea. Plus this way my girls could then be able to look through an eye piece and see the planets with their own young eyes. It's also perfect timing as I have started teaching an Astronomy block in my daughters home schooling. I'm no where near as good as my wife but it is fun to start sharing knowledge on Space. This week we learned about the spheres of our planet (Hydrosphere, Lithosphere, Atmosphere and Magnetosphere) as well as the hemispheres finishing up with Latitude and Longitude... it was fun and the girls said they enjoyed it.
So to support the science block, and my newly rediscovered hobby, I ordered the Edge HD 11" Optical Tube Assembly (OTA) so I could reuse my CGX mount and decide which tube to load based on the targets of the night. I can reuse the cameras and all the software so its a good option to get really good imagery. Since I have some experience with that focal length with my CPC 1100 I don't think I'll have as many learning curve issues. I did decide to go with the off axis guider which I'm a little hesitant on but that's what this hobby is all about, learning to use new things.
Now for the hard part... waiting, with all the new interest in backyard astronomy due to COVID most everything is back ordered... I'm keeping my thoughts positive that it will arrive in time for the alignment and watching and rewatching YouTube channels to fill the knowledge bank so I'm ready if it makes it.
